“Chlorine contained in a munition such as this is held under pressure; when the container is punctured – either by explosive means or impact alone – the liquefied chlorine vaporises. During this process, rapid cooling of the container occurs, causing adjacent humid air to form a frost on the container. This process, known as auto-refrigeration, indicates that the munition contained a pressurised gas payload.”
