9M55 Smerch series
A series of Soviet-designed artillery rockets which can be launched from the BM-30 Smerch multiple launch rocket system. With a diameter of 300 mm, Smerch series munitions are produced in a number of variants, including the unguided 9M55 series, which have a maximum effective firing range of 70 km. The rockets can deliver a variety of warhead types, including cluster munition, high explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG), and thermobaric. They have seen frequent use in conflicts across the globe, including the Chechen Wars, 2008 Georgian War, Syrian Civil War, and the war in Ukraine.
