GBU-53/B StormBreaker
An American-designed guided air-delivered bomb which has a maximum effective range of 111 km. Produced by Raytheon, it is sometimes referred to by its earlier name, ‘Small Diameter Bomb II’. The StormBreaker is a 250-pound-class munition which uses GPS and inertial navigation—as well as a trimode seeker which can use millimeter wave radar, imaging infrared, and semi-active radar homing—for guidance. This gives it the ability to strike targets, including moving targets, in poor weather conditions. It has been in service with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force since 2020, and has seen use during American strikes targeting the Houthis in Yemen in 2025.

Analyst Note:
This image shows several GBU-53/B bombs photographed from above while on a munitions transport cart. GBU-53/B bombs are transported and loaded onto the aircraft with the wing assembly on the bottom. When the GBU-53/B is released from the aircraft, the bomb rotates, with the wing assembly side orienting as the top as the bomb glides to its target. (ARES)
