The Incendiary Bomb Never Seen in Israel Before
Bellingcat published an article analysing Israel’s possible use of air-delivered bombs equipped with incendiary warheads during the Iran War. The piece explains how incendiary munitions, such as the BLU-119/B CrashPAD, work and what the images – posted on IDF social media accounts – show: MK 84 series bombs equipped with JDAM guidance kits and marked with red and yellow bands on the nose. Bellingcat explains that such red bands often denote the presence of incendiary munitions, while the yellow bands detonate high explosives.
The article cites entries by the OSMP on 3 March 2026 showing the air-delivered bombs likely equipped with incendiary warheads and notes that the OSMP described the munitions as “visually similar to a MK 84 general purpose aerial bomb,” but with a marking scheme “distinctly different” than those usually found on such munitions. The piece displays an OSMP entry and its accompanying analyst note and explains that every entry on the portal undergoes a review by at least two munitions experts from ARES, as outlined in our methodology.
