Israel appeared to use US-made 2,000-pound bombs in the strike that killed Hezbollah's chief

In September 2024, Business Insider published an article detailing Israel’s use of U.S.-made 2,000-pound-class air-delivered bombs during a strike two days earlier in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, which killed Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.

As part of their reporting, Business Insider cited OSMP entries with Analyst Notes that assess imagery posted by the IDF of fighter aircraft taking part in the operation. The OSMP entries indicate that the aircraft were carrying U.S.-made BLU-109 air-delivered bombs fitted with Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits. The BLU-109 is made with a thick steel body to enhance penetration of hard targets and is often referred to as a ‘bunker buster’ munition in media reports.
